Peterstone Court, near Brecon
Peterstone chefsPeterstone Court is an elegant and rather stunning Georgian Manor set just outside Brecon in a most beautiful part of Wales. It has a lovely feel of a relaxed country home and it is so easy to enjoy their wonderful Welsh welcome and attentive service, but then relax and recharge your batteries and let Peterstone Court work its magic on you.

I had this great idea to visit friends from Brecon and enjoy a Sunday lunch at The Bistro, Peterstone Court. I had not been there before but had heard about their new chef Lee Evans, who won the Best Welsh Breakfast competition which was held at the end of last year in Crickhowell. Evans has made a huge impact on Peterstone Court in the short time he’s been there and they were awarded the Gold Standard for Dining Out 2005 True Taste in Wales. Evans believes in using local seasonal produce and is fortunate to be able to source his food from the Hotel’s own farm; this is a policy close to my heart so I was really looking forward to tasting the food of this very talented chef. My first course was a pressing of ham hock and foie gras with shallot and lime marmalade, followed by the most delicious roast beef with all the trimmings and the finale was an outstanding white chocolate crème brulee. With such quality local produce you couldn’t fail to relish and enjoy each mouthful; there were absolutely no complaints from our party at all. After eating all that, it was an ideal opportunity to walk some of it off by enjoying a stroll around their picturesque grounds. We returned to enjoy coffee in front of a blazing log fire and felt so relaxed and comfortable we wished that we were staying on for a few nights – this was so easy to get used to. Their elegant rooms, many of which have four-poster beds make this venue ideal for those looking for a romantic break. We had a fitness freak with us who checked out the fully equipped gym and the Jacuzzi whilst we wished we had time to pamper ourselves with one of the many available treatments, but that was it - we did promise ourselves – we’d be back!

To enjoy such good food in wonderful surroundings made it a very special day for us and it will not be long before we make our return visit. I decided this venue was an ideal Valentine treat for my partner and there’s a choice of packages. On 11th- 12th February, they are offering a romantic 2 night Bed & Breakfast package for £210, for two people sharing a room. Or, take a 2 night break between 11th-15th which includes a romantic Valentine’s Dinner, including wine for £340. But book this package before the end of January, mention you’re a Welsh Country reader and there will be a dozen complimentary dozen roses – the ultimate romantic touch! I couldn’t resist this romantic weekend, so I’m making a secret booking now to get a four-poster bed and the roses!
