Cwtch at St Davids, Pembrokeshire

content customers at Cwtch I have a passion for Pembrokeshire and take whatever opportunity I can to visit this great county. So when I heard about an exciting new restaurant and bar in the heart of St Davids, just on the High Street that had only been open twelve months – then it was a great excuse to pay them a surprise visit.

Cwtch, pronounced cutsh, is a relaxed, easy going venue and the perfect place to chill out and relax. Welsh slate floors and some wooden floors, chalkboard menus, shelves stacked with local products, plus plenty of newspapers created a homely environment, without any hint of formality or pretentiousness. As regular readers will be well aware, I do have a ‘thing’ about service - I cannot bear surly, sulky or sloppy service. Well I’m delighted to tell you that the Cwtch team got it just right; they were not only all welcoming, friendly but very efficient in their work.

There was a lovely atmosphere in the upstairs bar where we chatted with a drink before dinner; this place would certainly be a regular haunt of ours if we lived locally. The menu changes regularly and Head Chef Matt Cox presents superb, simple combinations that work beautifully together, making the most of the flavours. I do prefer eating local food and Matt uses the finest organic local produce from sustainable sources. With my eye already on the pudding  menu, I bypassed a starter and went for the Welsh Black fillet of beef with horseradish crème fraiche and my friend had the local lamb cutlets with courgettes and mint salsa; both dishes were superb and could not be faulted.  Then onto the puds and how I struggled to choose – chocolate truffle torte, Cwtch crème brûlée, summer pudding or cheesecake were just some of my favourites on the menu. The torte and brûlée eventually won and were both scrumptious!  Cwtch also have a children’s menu too.  We had a marvellous evening and we’ll certainly be paying a return visit. ContactRestaurantTo sum up Cwtch is big on simplicity, big on flavour, big on service and big on hospitality.
