Kayakers in Trouble off St Davids Head.
A Call to the Coastguards stating some windsurfers were having problems off St. Davids Head at 2.30pm 16th August sent the St. Davids RNLI All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats racing to their assistance, with the St. Davids Coastguard Rescue Team going to The head itself. On arrival at the scene the lifeboats found that the windsurfers were in fact 4, local, kayakers rafted together on an exercise. The kayakers had been caught by the rip current and thrown into the water. Two of the kayakers were picked up by the vessel ‘Shearwater’ and two managed to swim to the shore. The kayaks and occupants were safely put ashore on Whitesands Beach where they were spoken to by the Coastguard. Although cold and wet, none required medical attention.

Another Family Rescued off Unsuitable Craft.
Following a report from the Lifeguards on Saundersfoot Beach during the afternoon of 14th August, The Tenby RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was launched and Tenby Coastguard Rescue Team alerted to a small boat about 1 mile off shore containing 2 adults and two children. The craft a 10ft Intex 4 Excursion inflatable with a small outboard engine attached was completely unsuitable to being so far off land and with that amount of people aboard. The Lifeboat located the small vessel and escorted it back to Saundersfoot Beach where the occupants were met by the Coastguard. Although the two adults and the 11 year and 10 year old children were wearing floatation aids the vessel had no other emergency equipment aboard and only a mobile phone for communication (if a signal was available and that far off shore it would have been very unlikely). The family from Carmarthen were given words of advice regarding their choice of craft and emergency equipment.
