Gwynedd Council is preparing a Unitary Development Plan (UDP) - which will in its final form - set a comprehensive policy framework for making decisions on planning applications in the county, excluding the area covered by the Snowdonia National Park.
As part of the process of preparing the UDP, the Council is now ready to publish a document which shows some proposed modifications to the plan, and the public consultation will allow anyone to present their comments from now until 3 October 2008.
These proposed modifications have been introduced having considered the recommendations presented in the Public Local Inquiry Inspector's Report held during 2006 and 2007. This public inquiry considered objections to the Deposit Draft of the Plan (2004) and to the Pre-Inquiry Proposed Changes (2005).
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Gwynedd Council's Senior Portfolio Leader for the Environment said:
"The Unitary Development Plan in its final form will ensure that the Council has a strong basis to make decisions on planning applications presented, while protecting the local environment and the special features of the Gwynedd Planning Authority area.
"The process of preparing a UDP is a long and complicated one which includes a number of statutory steps which must be followed, however publishing these proposed modifications is an important step which means that we are close to reaching the final objective.
"This consultation period is an important opportunity for anyone who is interested in the UDP to have their say, and we would urge them to present their written comments by 3 October 2008, which is the final date when the Council can accept them."
Dewi Rowlands, Gwynedd Council's Strategic Director - Environment:
"We hope that members of the public and any relevant bodies take the opportunity to present comments on the contents of the documents which will be available to view at Council offices, in local public libraries or online.
"At the end of the consultation period, we will consider all the comments received, and will decide if there will be a need to hold another public inquiry, to offer further modifications or to move ahead to formally adopt the UDP."
As part of the public consultation, copies of the document and other relevant documents will be available to view and to make comments on them at the Council's main offices at Caernarfon, Dolgellau and Pwllheli during office hours, as well as in public libraries until 3 October 2008. You can also view the documents and present your comments on the proposed modifications or the Council's decision not to accept some of the Inspector's recommendations on the Council website:
www.gwynedd.gov.uk/udpconsultation from Thursday, 21 August.
