Young drivers in Powys have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills to reduce their road risk thanks to a course running next month.
Powys County Council is funding and facilitating a new scheme call Pass Plus Cymru. The scheme is aimed at 17 to 25 year olds who hold a full driving licence.
The course consists of a theory session and practical session which are carried out by Approved Driving Instructors. Once completes, young drivers may be entitled to reduced motor insurance costs.
Cllr Gwilym Evans, board member responsible for Road Safety, said: "Young drivers are our second most vulnerable road user and I truly believe that this course provides invaluable information and skills that will help reduce the number of collisions on our roads."
Courses are now available at the following locations:
Newtown Fire Station - Tuesday 5 August
Llandrindod Wells Fire Station - Wednesday 6 and 13 August
Brecon Fire Station - Thursday 21 and 28 August.
The cost of the course to each individual is £20 with the council's Road Safety Unit paying the remaining £100 through funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.
For further information contact Sarah Morris, the council's Senior Road Safety Officer on 01597 826637.
