Breconshire Brewery

Image

ImageWales area for over 30 years. The ten barrel plant (sourced from the defunct Pembrokeshire Brewery), was put together and commissioned just in time for Christmas, 2002. To create the "Ales from the Heart of Wales" range, Optic malts are blended with a range of UK grown whole hops. Head Brewer Justin 'Buster' Grant who holds an MSc in Brewing and Distilling, joined the company following the demise of Brakspears of Henley on Thames.

At the Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival, 2003, organised by CAMRA, (the Campaign for Real Ale), the Judges of the Champion Beer of Wales competition awarded a Gold medal to Brecon County Ale and Silver medals to Golden Valley and Ramblers Ruin.

Golden Valley also won the accolade of Beer of the Festival at the Carmarthen Beer Festival in 2003.

At the 2004 competition, the Brecon County Ale retained it's title as the best pint of Bitter in Wales, and the Golden Valley won the overall title of Champion Beer of Wales, 2004/5. Our 2004 Hop Harvest special beer, Green Dragon, won Beer of the Festival at the inaugeral Narberth Food Festival.
