Stars from all corners of
the globe and the outer reaches of the galaxy will be travelling through space and
time to appear alongside Bryn Terfel at this year's Faenol Festival on August
22-25 this year.
Announcing
this year's line up, Bryn Terfel said: "This
year, our artists are truly out of this world! It's a superb line up of
glittering stars, absolute leaders in their field. Boyzone are sure to ignite
the Festival fire on Friday night, and the opera gala is going to be a real
powerhouse with stunning voices and of course the wonderful Welsh National
Opera Orchestra. Not sure where we'll park the Tardis, but John Barrowman and
Daniel Boys will be very welcome here and I'm sure that fans from all corners
of the globe or even the universe will be queuing up for tickets to see this
time lord perform. I'm looking forward to it immensely and I'm sure our audiences
will too."
Boyzone, one of the most
popular boy bands ever will turn back time to the 1990's on Friday 22 August as
they open this year's festival with a selection of their best loved songs. Having
split in 2000, the five boys from Ireland are reforming this year for
a limited tour. Destined to be one of the live music events of the year, this
performance will see all five original members - Ronan Keating, Stephen Gately,
Shane Lynch, Mikey Graham and Keith Duffy come back together in style.
On Saturday night 23 August,
the world class operatic voices of the renowned German soprano Diana Damrau and
South African tenor Johan Botha will echo through space and time as they join
Bryn Terfel and the orchestra of Welsh National Opera under the baton of Gareth
Jones. Damrau who was born in Günzburg an der Donau
in Germany studied at the
Musikhochschule Würzburg before heading to Salzburg to study under Hanna Ludwig. Since
launching her career in 2002, the glittering soprano has sung in the most
prestigious theatres of the world including Vienna,
Brussels, Washington,
La Scala, Milan, the Metropolitan Opera, New York and at the Royal Opera House, Covent
Garden. She has worked with many of the world's leading conductors
including Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Sir Colin Davis, Christoph von Dohnanyi,
Riccardo Muti, Ivor Bolton, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Pierre Boulez and Peter
Schneider. Dian will be arriving in Caernarfon straight from appearing as
Pamina in The Magic Flute in Vienna.
Born in South Africa,
Johan Botha is one of the leading tenors of his generation. He can be heard in
all major opera houses and concert stages around the world, including the Gran
Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, the State Operas of Berlin and Dresden, the Lyric
Opera, Chicago, the Grand Théatre Genève, Hamburg State Opera, the Royal Opera
House, Covent Garden, La Scala in Milan, Opéra Bastille and the Châtelet, Paris,
the Salzburg Festival, Vienna Staatsoper and Opera Australia in Sydney. It
promises to be a powerhouse of an opera gala!
Time traveller Captain Jack
Harkness will navigate the outer galaxies to arrive at the Faenol Estate to
head a cast of stars for Sunday night's Musical Theatre Gala. Captain Jack,
otherwise known as John Barrowman will be joined on stage by Bryn Terfel and Daniel
Boys. ‘Leading man, cult hero, debonair
judge and show stopping singer' are just a few of John Barrowman's
attributes! Since rising to fame as a West End
and Broadway star, today he is in demand as an actor and TV presenter and
reality TV show judge. Daniel Boys has been a regular on West End and Musical
Theatre stages across the UK
over the past five years or so, but shot to fame as one of the finalists in the
BBC's search for Joseph series Any Dream
Will Do last year.
In time honoured tradition
the Festival will come to a climactic close on Monday night when a galaxy of
stars from the Welsh Rock and pop scene over the past thirty years gather to
light the dragon's fire in Tân y Ddraig.
