If you have never been to Torfaen, or worse still never even considered visiting, then it's high time you did, and you're in for a nice surprise. Although Torfaen is a relatively small county it has a surprising number of notable and historic landmarks deriving from its rich and long heritage. These will help to explain the area's importance in times past, but be warned, you need far more than one day to fully appreciate them. Torfaen is situated in the centre of what was once the old county of Monmouthshire and is just on the southern borders of the Brecon Beacons National Park, yet it is still only a few minutes drive from Wales' capital city of Cardiff.
