Hotel Maes-y-Neuadd, Harlech, Snowdonia |
I had been looking forward to visiting North Wales and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Nestled into a wooded mountainside, close to Harlech, with spectacular views across the Snowdonia National Park and Cardigan Bay this family run hotel combines the highest standards of comfort and hospitality in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere – just what I needed...
The Bedrooms:
All fifteen bedrooms and suites have been imaginatively designed and furnished. Each room has its own individual style. You have everything you could possibly need and an ideal place to relax.
The Dining Room:
This elegant and gracious room is presided over by Peter Jackson, who is Chef Patron, Chairman of the Welsh Culinary Association and retired Manager of the Welsh National Culinary Team. Peter and his team use fine, fresh ingredients, most of which are home grown or obtained locally. Every meal eaten in the restaurant, from a wonderful Welsh breakfast to a delightful dinner, made me realise what talented chefs we have in Wales.
The garden: Walled kitchen gardens and sixty-five acres of wooded grounds make an ideal place to stroll along, enjoying the peace and tranquillity and walking off Peter’s tempting food.
Weddings:
For that special day, this is the most perfect venue; Licensed for civil ceremonies, party numbers can be from 2 to 120 and take place in the house or a marquee. They offer a complete wedding service and will tailor your special day to meet your requirements, giving you as much or as little help as you require. No wedding in the offing but just fancy a house party? Then let Maes-y-Neuadd take the strain and look after it for you. If you are looking for a conference venue, they’ll be happy to arrange that too. Nothing is too much trouble for them; let them make your dreams come true.
What’s of interest nearby?
I was spoilt for choice! Gardens, antiques, horse riding, clay and game shooting, golf, archery, falconry and hawking, quad biking, fishing, white water rafting. There are beautiful beaches nearby as well as Portmeirion, historic castles and the Slate Caverns. I ran out of time but I did want to take a gourmet picnic aboard the world famous Ffestiniog railway. As well as picnics, Maes-y-Neuadd will even arrange a lunch or dinner if you wish to charter a train for a special occasion. That’s all the excuse I need to return...
Why visit?
I felt so at home here that it was rather like visiting friends, alright, wealthy friends, for a short break. I arrived feeling tired and stressed and although my stay was only a few days, when I had to leave I felt relaxed, refreshed and with my ‘batteries’ most certainly recharged! The whole team at Maes-y-Neuadd, led by Peter and his wife Lynn, who have recently been joined by Lynn’s brother-in-law, Peter Payne, are setting a very high standard here in Wales.
