Hotel Penrallt, Cardigan Bay |
Originally built as a private mansion in the early 1900s it is in the most stunning location, set in 42 acres of delightful ground with magnificent sea views over the Cardigan Bay coast. Easily accessed from the main A487, but sufficiently far from it to believe you “could be almost anywhere”.
The Rooms: All fifteen en-suite bedrooms have been individually designed and tastefully decorated. With direct dial telephones, colour TV, radio and tea/coffee making facilities, you’ll have everything you’ll need. The Dining Room: This is an elegant Edwardian oak panelled room which was the perfect setting for the sumptuous food that was on offer. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here, but if you want a more relaxed feel, then head off for lunch or dinner in the conservatory or terrace bar. The food will not disappoint you, with a constantly changing menu and fresh local produce sourced by the head chef Neil. We really enjoyed the good fish selection and the use of seasonal foods. Neil describes his style as ‘modern British cuisine with a Mediterranean twist’. He also organises theme nights with Mediterranean, Thai and fish, so I have all the excuses I need to return again. A good selection of beers and wines complemented our eating experiences perfectly. The garden: Provides the ideal setting for families or visitors that simply want to relax and de-stress. If you prefer self-catering, you’ll find a superb selection of twenty-four self-catering cottages. There’s also the Penrallt Leisure Club with an indoor heated pool, Jacuzzi, gym, sauna, tennis court and coffee bar. After our swim we went and enjoyed a drink in the café bar along with a delicious snack. In the warmer weather you can enjoy the outdoor heated pool and the pitch ‘n’ putt golf course. For active guests: This area is a paradise if you have an interest in the great outdoors. With coastal walking, cycling, sailing, kayaking, pony-trekking, fishing, golf, your choice is endless. What’s of interest nearby? Go dolphin watching in Cardigan Bay. Travel northwards to Snowdonia or head south to Pembrokeshire and the Cambrian and Preseli mountains. There are museums, art galleries, even a gold centre, something for every taste. Why visit? You simply don’t want to miss out on Cardigan Bay’s best kept secret! If you are planning a special occasion, romantic weekend, or anniversary, talk to Penrallt.
