It's been some time since I last visited the Hotel Penrallt, but I was intrigued to see what improvements an extensive revamp had achieved. Overlooking Aberporth Bay, the hotel started life as a private mansion in the early 1900s and is set in 42 acres of beautiful grounds. Impressive Edwardian architecture gives it a grand feel but the welcoming and helpful staff actually made me feel I was visiting friends for a few days, alright, they would have been wealthy friends but even so ...

It's a couple of years since I first visited The Imperial for a conference, followed by a mid-week break some months later when the hotel was undergoing a massive refurbishment. So as I love this area and had a few days free, I decided to head north once again to view the changes. The Victorian building looked just as majestic with its superb situation right on the seafront boasting spectacular views over Llandudno Bay.

Built before 1277, Ruthin Castle, the "Red Fort", dominates the historic Welsh market town of Ruthin. It nestles in acres of private landscaped gardens, parkland and woods alongside the river Clwyds, surrounded by its ancient walled dry moat. I couldn’t fail to feel the sense of history in such magnificent surroundings, but it still felt comfortable. I hate grand, formal hotels; they’re far too intimidating for me, so my initial friendly welcome here certainly put me at my ease.

When a friend asked me to join her for a Spa Indulgence break, there
was only one answer – yes please! As we drove along the private wooded
drive towards Tre-Ysgawen Hall, which is set in the heart of the Isle
of Anglesey, we were immediately taken with the tranquillity; just what
we needed for our ‘chill out’ break. Built in 1882, Tre-Ysgawen has
been extended and refurbished to the highest standards and is now one
of the most acclaimed Country House Hotels in Wales. We arrived on a
Friday evening, having pre-booked a one hour Marine Cocoon Body
Treatment and a Reflexology Treatment for Saturday as well as a Marine
Infusion Facial and a luxury Jessica Manicure on Sunday. A whole
weekend of pampering, how absolutely perfect.
