I'm Kath Rhodes, editor of Welsh Country and delighted with the response and huge support we have had since we launched Welsh Country nearly five years ago. Our team at Welsh Country is passionate about many things, promoting Wales, encouraging more visitors to spend their holidays here, and highlighting the wonderful array of Welsh food as well as many green issues. The last year has seen us pass a few more milestones. We have published Geoff Brookes' book Stories in Welsh Stone a first for both of us and getting really good reviews. I was lucky enough to be nominated for a National Rural Hero Award with the Countryside Alliance, I do not know who nominated me, but thanks, and can only assume it is for the behind the scenes work that the team do referring problems that come into the office about small business and food issues. I hope you continue to enjoy reading Welsh Country as much as we enjoy putting it all together for you, plus enjoying the beautiful countryside and the food and crafts produced here.
Agriculturally trained, Ian has always lived and worked in the countryside. Work has taken him around different parts of the UK including a few years in the flat landscape of the Fens. Ian attended Agricultural College in Aberystwyth, and now feels that he has returned home to relish the challenge of building the Welsh Country business. Having done PR and Marketing for 20 years, working with many countryside companies, Ian’s understanding of rural issues and small businesses helps considerably when he is talking to businesses all over Wales about Welsh Country Magazine. Cooking is also a passion of Ian's, which really completes the circle from farming to the plate.
It's Debbie's job to make sure that you can actually get hold of Welsh Country in your local shop! Having lived and worked in Wales for over 30 years, understanding how this country really works, and being a people person, she has the skills to work with the personal family stockist down the road, and the minefield that are the national wholesalers, to get the magazine on the shelves! Her diverse talents mean that she can also make sure that when the magazine hits the shelves, it hits with good grammar and accurate spelling! There's obviously a lot more to that when proofing the articles however! Outside the office, Debbie holds an active lifestyle perfect for this rural setting - you're likely to find her horse riding, walking the dogs and exploring the countryside. Having been a florist for many years she has a love for the flora too - perfect for adding to the knowledge base behind the magazine!
Educated at the University of Central England in Birmingham, Tony obtained a solid understanding of design and developed his individual skill, integrating well into the dynamic advertising and design industry. After various freelance jobs and numerous placements at advertising agencies in and around Birmingham, Tony decided that he wanted a change of scenery, which led him to Wales. With Tony's excellent background in design from the competitiveness of the city, combined with his new found love of space & freedom in the Welsh countryside (and not forgetting his new obsession with Bara Brith!) - Tony brings the magazine together with dynamic design and creative styles.
Moc Morgan has spent a life time fishing. He has fished in over thirty different countries around the globe and has nine books to his credit. Having served for many years as chairman of the Welsh Anglers Council, he is the current chairman of the Federation of Welsh Anglers. In 1991 Moc was awarded the O.B.E. by the Queen for services to angling after having organised a highly successful World Fly Fishing Championship in Wales. Moc writes Welsh Country magazine's Fishing pages every issue - a must read for fishing enthusiasts in Wales. A man of the wild, lonely fisheries in the hills of mid Wales, Moc loves being far, far from the madding crowds and on the banks of his beloved river Teifi and Teifi Pools fooling the discerning brown trout.
It took Tom over 20 years to realise that he didn't look good in a suit and tie, and less than 5 minutes to resign from his day job to concentrate on his writing and photography. He's since won awards for his pictures, and travelled extensively both in the UK and abroad. He's equally at home walking, climbing, skiing, or cycling, and his passion for the outdoors is matched only by his love of nature in general. Originally hailing from Bristol, he now lives in the Brecon Beacons National Park, with his partner, Steph, and two dogs, Honey and India.
After a 25 year career as a teacher and schools inspector in the UK and overseas, Richard Cain left education and changed direction completely to develop a specialist plant nursery near Newcastle Emlyn in West Wales. Penlan Perennials opened in 1999 and quickly established itself as a leader in the field of environmentally friendly, peat free plant production, selling plants worldwide through its online web shop. When he is not busy at the nursery Richard Cain is a keen photographer and lectures and writes on all aspects of horticulture and environmental conservation.
Geoff Brookes is Deputy Headteacher of Cefn Hengoed Community School in Swansea and freelance writer. He has lived in Wales for almost 25 years and is fascinated by its hidden history. Geoff writes Welsh Country's "A Story in Stone" articles, which detail suspicious deaths that have happened in Wales' past. These are very popular pages in the magazine, despite their eerie undertones....
