MOMA WALES
(Museum Of Modern Art, Wales) flourishes in four beautiful
galleries alongside
The
Tabernacle, a former Wesleyan chapel which opened as a
centre for the performing arts in 1986 in the historic market town of
Machynlleth in Mid Wales. The
Tabernacle Auditorium seats 350 people and has perfect
acoustics. Here, each year in late August, the
Machynlleth Festival
takes place: a week of splendid music making by eminent
performers.
Throughout
the year MOMA WALES shows
Modern Welsh Art,
in a series of constantly
changing exhibitions featuring Wales' top artists. Works
from the growing
Tabernacle Collection are shown in rotation. In
July every year artists are invited to enter a new work in the
Tabernacle Art Competition.
Expert judges and then the public choose the winners.

The adjacent
Old Tannery
building was acquired in 2002. Funds are being raised to convert
it into a New Gallery to exhibit works from The Tabernacle
Collection and to provide a Sculpture Space.
