Huge Helpings of Festive Fun in Merthyr as The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil prepares for festive fun
Merthyr Tydfil hosts its inaugural Winter Market and Skating Rink on Saturday 6 December as part of an extensive programme of festive events to encourage shoppers to the town centre in the lead up to Christmas.
Visitors to the event taking place in Penderyn Square and Redhouse between 10am and 5pm will be able to pick up some tasty treats for Christmas from some twenty food stalls offering everything from luxury chocolates to gourmet pies, delicious cakes to flavoursome jams, freshly baked breads to smooth honey and red hot sauces to speciality drinks, not to mention a range of wines, beers and ciders.
There will be lots to keep people warm on the day with artisan hot dogs, pedigree Welsh pork baps with apple sauce and stuffing and gourmet cooking from local favourite, Jol’s Food Company. Not to mention the opportunity to wash it all down with a glass of mulled wine or cider.
There’s also plenty to keep the children entertained whether it be a glide around the artificial skating rink, free face painting or the fun festive entertainment on offer including a singing reindeer and a surprisingly tall elf.
Throughout the day, Redhouse will be hosting a Christmas arts and craft fair featuring a whole range of stalls and plenty of opportunity to pick up an unusual Christmas gift or two.
Les Byard, Chair of The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil said, “This is the final major event of the year in the town centre and it is guaranteed to bring a festive smile to everyone’s face. Not only do we have a wonderful selection of hot and cold foods and delicious local produce, but we also have a tremendous range of art and craft stalls, lots of seasonal entertainment and a skating rink for the brave amongst you.” He added that there is free parking all day in the pay and display car parks and urged visitors to get stuck into their Christmas shopping whilst enjoying a fabulous festive day in Merthyr Tydfil town centre.
Merthyr’s Winter Market is jointly organised and funded by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil and Redhouse.
