Tenby artist (and hotelier) – Alan Rees-Baynes of Elm Grove Country House, St Florence has recently been short listed for Wales’ only large scale contemporary international painting competition – the biennial BEEP International Painting Prize.
Artists from around the world have been selected for the shortlist, 16 of them from Wales and 1 very proud one from Pembrokeshire.
The competition was judged by acclaimed painter Shani Rhys James and respected curator Jonathan Watkins. Alan says “I was delighted to be short listed for this highly regarded competition, and look forward to seeing my work touring the country in Swansea, Wrexham and Cardiff over the rest of this year”.
The two pieces selected were from Alan’s “test card” range of works done in just 6 shades and inspired by the name of the paint themselves – Amazon Jungle and Nomadic Glow.
The full show can be seen at the Swansea College of Art until the September 3rd, when the show will move onto Wrexham.
